BursitisBursitis is a painful condition that occurs when the bursa, or padding around the joints, bones, tendons, and muscles become swollen.

The most common affected places by bursitis are:

  • buttocks.

The causes are due to the following: * injury * infection * overuse of joint * it can also develop from conditions such as gout -scleroderma – rheumatoid arthritis

Symptoms of bursitis include: * pain that grows with movement or pressure * enlargement of the area * rigidness or pain present in the area * joint feels warm or appears red diagnostics for bursitis include: * x rays * blood test *MRI or CT scan

 Treatment: * protection of joint * stay off the joint * prop the affected area up * rest the joint

 Medications: * ice packs * prescription and nonprescription medications * antibiotics (if the person this stems from an infection * surgery- to have the bursa drained * insert a needle into the affected area to drain the bursa
